Cheryl Curson
Lead Care Coordinator
Lead Nurse - Improving Outcomes for Neonates and Families
I qualified as a children’s nurse in 2000 and have worked in neonatal intensive care and special care units as a nurse, advanced neonatal nurse practitioner, and matron. I have always been interested in improving the experience of neonatal care for babies, families and staff and previously worked for the charity Bliss supporting neonatal parents.
As the lead care coordinator for the network, I work with the team of Care Coordinators, our Parent and Family Engagement Lead and the Parent Advisory Group to support neonatal units to work in partnership with parents and families. This model of care is called Family Integrated Care (FICare). We work to improve the continuity of care for families as they move between neonatal units in the West Midlands. We also support neonatal units to gain Bliss Baby Charter and Neonatal Baby Friendly Accreditation. Listening to families and staff, education and quality improvement are a big part of the Care Coordinators role.
