Brain Protection Bundle
The Brain Protection Bundle (BPB) brings together evidence‑based practices designed to reduce brain injury and optimise neurodevelopmental outcomes for preterm infants born before 30 weeks’ gestation. Building on national and international guidance, the bundle focuses on consistent, high‑quality care across the early days of life, recognising the impact of environment, positioning, handling, nutrition, and family involvement on the vulnerable preterm brain. This page provides the resources, tools and supporting materials required to support staff and services in preparing for and launching the Brain Protection Bundle in June 2026, ensuring a shared, standardised approach to neuroprotective care from the very start.

Please find the data capture form here. It should be completed for all babies born under 30 weeks. Each shift nurse caring for baby on day 0, day 1 and day 2 will complete the MS Form (available here, or scan QR on paper copy). A paper copy is available to download and print as prompt. This form is about understanding what really happens in practice, not about judgement. Please answer as honestly as you can — that’s what helps us improve care. The data collected will help us understand the impact of the Brain Protection Bundle, including any changes in mortality and morbidity. If something wasn’t completed, it’s really helpful to know why (e.g. clinical factors, workload, equipment, or other challenges).
