Brain Protection Bundle
The Brain Protection Bundle (BPB) brings together evidence‑based practices designed to reduce brain injury and optimise neurodevelopmental outcomes for preterm infants born before 30 weeks’ gestation. Building on national and international guidance, the bundle focuses on consistent, high‑quality care across the early days of life, recognising the impact of environment, positioning, handling, nutrition, and family involvement on the vulnerable preterm brain. This page provides the resources, tools and supporting materials required to support staff and services in preparing for and launching the Brain Protection Bundle in June 2026, ensuring a shared, standardised approach to neuroprotective care from the very start. Please find resources to support implementation of the Brain Protection Bundle here:

The following videos show how to do side lying nappy changes, and then an introduction to our Brain Protection Bundle. This introduction was first shared at one of our our Neobitesize sessions. The password to view the introduction is available for health care staff working in a neonatal unit in the West Midlands Perinatal Network either from your education team or by contacting wmpn.neonatal@nhs.net.
